The Takanami-class Onami is the second of the fourth-generation helicopter-equipped general-purpose escort ships, following the Murasame-class.
The ship is designed with stealth technology and has greater running surface capabilities than the Murasame-class. It was completed on March 13, 2003, and is deployed to the Yokosuka Escort Flotilla 2.
