It was built at Mitsubishi Nagasaki Shipyard as the second Akizuki-class general-purpose destroyer and commissioned on March 7, 2013.
It is part of the 6th Escort Corps of the 2nd Escort Corps. Following the Hyūga and Atago-class, it has adopted a tower-type mast to improve stealth. It is responsible for fleet air defense with its FCS-3A multi-function radar and Evolved SeaSparrow Missiles (ESSM) with a range of approximately 50 km. It has been confirmed that the machine gun positions are different from those of the Akizuki. The kit includes aircraft to be scrambled and an Air Self-Defense Force set.
